Obituary in Daily Mercury, Wed 19 Jan 1916 Page 4 PERSONAL.There passed away yesterday a very old resident in Mr. Abraham Ditton at the ripe age of 78 years. The deceased arrived in Mackay in 1863, and worked at Pleystowe breaking in bullocks for ploughing maize and cotton, then the principal crops grown on the plantation. He also worked in the district as a butcher and teamster, most of the heavy machinery for the Homebush and other sugar mills having been drawn by his team. In 1884 he selected the farm now well known as "Ashford" on Sandy Creek, where, after dairying, he commenced growing cane in 1897, which occupation he followed at "Ashford" until his decease.
